Re: Normal GTT and MetforminFrom: Avalos (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 3 Apr 2000 16:28:38 -0500
yes!!!! I had what seems like a hundred blood tests (more like ten) and all were "normal". Then another woman with PCOS suggested that I ask for the 3 to 5 hour glucose tolerance test. I asked & was administered the two-hour test. I reminded my doctor & the lab technician to look at the insulin resistance levels, not the blood sugar count.... Today I spoke with my doctor & she confirmed that I am insulin resistant... If I had not pursued that avenue & pushed for the test, I would still be in the dark.... As for the benefits of Metformin, only a doctor can answer that for sure... if your current doctor can not help you, keep networking with Cysters in your local area, someone there is bound to know of a physician who can answer your questions. You can also try asking questions on the web... There is one specialist, a Dr. Mark Perloe, who will answer anyone's questions, whether they are patients or not... Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Monday, April 03, 2000 4:16 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION Subject: Normal GTT and Metformin I recently took an hour long GTT test. They took one blood test after one hour, and it came back normal. Should I have a two hour test which checks insulin resistance? If it turns out that I am not insulin resistant, would I still benefit from Metformin? I do not have many cysts on my ovaries, but I do have excessive facial hair growth, high testosterone levels, irregular periods, and am about 20 pounds overweight. Any advice would be welcome, thanks.
