metaforminFrom: mhairi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 27 Mar 2000 06:59:55 -0600 (CST)
i recently have been prescirbed metaformin by my gyenocologist and went to my local gp to pick up the prescritpion. He was not a happy man prescribing the drug and told me that the insulin resistance is only a secondary sign of pcos and not the main problem and i should perhaps be looking more at an adrogen drug to help with my syptoms. His discription of the disease and the treatments so far have been contrary to what i have read and now I am totally confused . I was lead to beleive that metaformin would help me loose weight , hopefully regularizing my menstrual cycle and help me with such things as hiritsum . He has said this is not the case..that i will still battle with my testostorone levels. He also refused me access to a dietician saying that pcos does not benfit from a low carb diet . Is this information that i recieved from him correct? He also prescribed metaformin without consulting any notes from the genocologist . Should i be seeking advice from another GP?
