Re: Glucophage and DietFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 25 Mar 2000 13:56:29 -0600 (CST)
For a while now I have felt like a lone voice in the wilderness, but I'll keep saying it as long as I need to: YOU DON'T NEED TO LOW-CARB IT TO LOSE WEIGHT WITH PCO! There are many dangers associated with low-carb diets, not the least of which is KIDNEY DAMAGE. Is it really worth having to be on dialysis for the rest of your life and need a transplant to lose some weight?? It's certainly not to me. I have lost about 65 lbs so far (since I don't have a scale, it may be more than that by now) by following a program known as "Weigh Down." It's amazingly easy and very healthy--my RE has approved heartily. The book can be found at any mass merchandiser; the author is Gwen Shamblin. You should probably ask your RE if a higher dose of met would be helpful. 500 mg is not known to be very effective in most women with PCO. If you're not satisfied with the answer/response, find another dr. I had to do that, and am very pleased with my treatment now. Good luck.
