Re: After Metformin?From: Johnson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Mar 2000 07:12:05 -0500
MY BEST RESULTS WAS WITH A ENDOCRINOLOGIST. READ UP ON ALL YOU CAN SO YOU WILL BE PREPARED FOR THE DOCTORS APPT. MOST OF THEM JUST FEEL IN THE DARK WITH THIS DISORDER BUT IT HELPS TO FIND ALL THE KNOWLEDGE YOU CAN. -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2000 8:48 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-MEDICATION Subject: After Metformin? After serveral cycles on clomide and a laparoscopy which revealed nothing I asked my infertility specialist to try Metformin. OK she says and puts me on a prescription for 1500mg. Needless to say I have side effects and call the office but my doctor is on vacation and the one who is covering brings me down to 1000mg and asks me to take some blood test. (Not done previously.) The blood test comes back with an insulin level of 75. The covering doctor calls me at work puts me in a panic that I might be diabetic and says he wants more blood tests. Since than I have heard nothing. My BBT on metformin has been a straight line. My regular doctor said not to worry about the insulin level just said I was insulin resistant. She also wants to take me off the metformin after this month if nothing changes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I keep fighting or give up on metformin? And shouldn't I be concerned about the elevated insulin? My glucose was fine, so she said I never saw those results. I've made an appointment for a consultation with an endocrinologist but I'm being to wonder if any of these doctors really know what's going on.
