Re: Glucophage

I have been on Glucophage for over six months. I am probably insulin resistant though I have not been tested for it. The Metformin or Glucophage is supposed to help prevent the body from turning more insulin resistant. This seems to happen in stages with eventual diabetes possibly. My doctor said that I should start with a lower dosage and gradually increase it tol lessen the shock to the system. This is supposed to lessen the diarrhea, too. The body usually adjusts to the medication and the diarrhea does not happen as much.

I still feel a bit diarrhetic especially when I have had more carbs than I should. For the most part, I have adjusted though. I do find that I have flatulence sometimes which is embarrassing to say the least. I have not lost much weight; I lost about twenty pounds just from the meds and changing to lower carbs, lower simple carbs especially. I take 1000mg Glucophage daily WITH MEALS. I have seen a change is my skin (It's clearer.) and a slight change to the hirsutism (a little better). I am not trying to conceive and don't worry about the ovulation so I cannot tell you that this is helping that way. My periods were not an issue before treatment.
