Hi, Ria,

I understand being reluctant to have to go on a medication and stay on it long term. But if you really do have PCOS, then you should be glad that we do have some medications to help treat it, because it can be devastating.

It is really really hard for women with PCOS to lose weight, and controlling the carbohydrates is critical. Get to your public library and find some good books about low carb diets that explain your options, like eating more vegetables, and less rice, potatoes, wheat products, etc. For instance, lentils and other legumes are a good choice for getting carbs and proteins and fiber.

If you are really committed to trying to lose the ten pounds now, without medication, then you will have much better success if you exercise, as well as control your carbohydrates. And I mean, really stick to it. Most PCOS patients can't lose weight through diet alone.

Now, if you do find yourself facing taking medication...........go for it and don't feel bad about it. It will help you, and glucophage is a God send for many PCOS patients. And accepting that you need help from medication is a lot easier than accepting the metabolic and cosmetic consequences from having uncontrolled PCOS.

Good luck!
