Ria:
I am 23 years old and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15 years old.
The message of following a diabetic diet is a good one, but it is very
hard. I am from Jamaica, but my ancestors are of East Indian descent.
Did you know that about 25% of PCOS women are of Indian origin? When I
was 15, I initially gained 30 pounds and was diagnosed, and lost it.
Then in college, I gained and lost another 45 pounds. I find that when
my life becomes busy with my career/life goals, I don't have as much
time to plan and think about my foods. When I did lose weight, I was
able to do it by not eating any complex carbs for at least 3 months (to
wean myself off of them) and then slowly introduced them in very limited
quantities. I also cut out all extraneous sources of sugar, like soda
and candy. Now, I have gained weight again, but I know it is something
that I will overcome, as I have done it 2x before. Stay positive and
keep your head up. I understand your reluctance to take meds, so try
your best. Remember, if you have to take the meds, it is not because
you failed.
