Confused!From: J (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 16 Aug 2003 17:44:20 -0700 (PDT)
Hi, Has anybody on this list seen Dr. Ehrmann (Endocrinologist with a research emphasis on PCOS) at University of Chicago Hospitals? I felt he totally misled me. The first time that he saw me he suggested that i would be a good candidate for Met. I mentioned that my blood sugar has always shown up normal and he suggested that the fasting glucose tolerance test would be the best diagnostic tool for me. His student dr. confirmed that in a detailed chat with Dr. Ehrmann, the latter had suggested Met to help with the insulin resistance. Imagine my surprise when on my 2nd visit, Dr. E suggests Diet and Exercise (it seemed like I was in twilight zone to hear this coming from an 'authority' on PCOS!) but no Met! I was taken aback. I mentioned that I eat legumes, complex carbs only and burn 662 calories 5-6 days a week. Weight loss is just not happening in my case! It was only when I got home that I realised we didn't have my fasting glucose tolerance (that best diagnostic tool) results as yet!! To put it mildly, I am upset and feel cheated. All the time the the Dr. was in the room, his expression told me that I was not asking him the right question. He was not willing to explain anything to me. Most questions were answered with, "No I couldn't say this...or that." I am confused as to what he did say....but it sure seemed like he didn't have any information to volunteer. Wonder what happened to him between the detailed discussion with his assistant and coming into the room to see me? Jayme SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
