Well said! -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Behalf Of Wyvern Sent: Friday, June 27, 2003 1:32 AM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS-DIET Subject: Re: Dexatrim? I don't think diet medications will help you. The weight gain is due to Insulin Resistance. Taking diet medications aren't addressing that problem hence I don't think weight loss will be achievable. Also, many diet medications cause heart palpitations and other negative affects. I would suggest going to another physician before resorting to OTC medications that could have dubious to negative affects on one's body. I fully understand and empathize with you about the weight issues. PCOS is a terrible syndrome for a person's social life. If it isn't weight, then it is male pattern hair growth or balding. The weight issue is easier for society to accept than the hair growth or loss. I have always been a hefty gal, but I began putting on 20 pounds a year when I entered college. I went from 180 to 275 pounds in about 2 years. It was a severe blow to my self esteem when the male pattern hair started to show up. I have lost about 35 pounds of the weight and most of the male pattern hair growth. I don't have a long way to go. I only want to see 200-180 again. I would rather be 30-50 pounds overweight instead of almost 100 pounds overweight. The lower the weight the fewer symptoms of pcos. However, for me the weight loss is mainly a health issue. I have never had much of a problem with male attention even at my heaviest. I can honestly say alot of it is personality and dressing well at any size. Many men like women at any size, and some even prefer a full sized woman over thinner sisters. Do small things to make yourself feel pretty at your size now. Find something attractive about yourself and play up on it. One's self worth is not just tied up in image, but the inner person. Work on you loving you and find the beauty within as well as the outside. Everyone notices a self assured, relaxed, and happy person of anysize over a morose, depressed, or desperate individual. Good luck with your endeavors and your pcos. Be well, Wyvern
