Hey Angie! I've been on Metformin for over a year now. I'm PCOS and it took me 4 doctors before I found one that would subscribe Metformin for me. On the visit to the 4th doctor, I found out she too, was PCOS and had read up on the studies so she had no problem subscribing. Print out and take documents with you showing other doctors suggesting Metformin for PCOS as it is significantly related to insulin resistance. Now, regarding the Metformin itself: The first couple of days were rough for me personally. I had some gastrointestinal issues going on. I was very concerned until I called the dr. and was told that was completely normal. (It may seem like you ate something bad and it's churning.) If I accidently skip a dose, sometimes it will "loosen" things up, but after about a month, everything should be relatively fine. Longterm, I feel great. For me, it was totally worth it. It brought back my cycle, I dropped a little weight, about 5 lbs. (I am SIGNIFICANTLY insulin resistant!) If I were you, I'd look into combining Met with a lower carb diet. Cut out the "whites". Rice, pasta, white sugar, white flour. Everyone is different, so you'll just need to find your level of carb intake to bring everything together. I also got moving. I bought a treadmill and started walking 2 miles at first. Now I'm up to jogging (2-3x's wkly), swimming (1-2x's wkly)o weight resistance training. I look good, feel WONDERFUL and have energy. Good luck and I hope this helps!
