I have definitely altered recipes and come up with some great alternatives. You can put whole wheat flour in just about anything that calls for regular flour. You can substitute sweeteners in whole or part. That's what I do when I want a treat - muffins or cookies made healthier. Apple, carrot or banana nut muffins are great with a little whole wheat flour, and the sugars in the fruit are better for you than table sugar.

Mostly, though, I just avoid meals that are largely carb-based (pasta dishes, rice dishes, etc.). And when making dinner I skip the starch - just meat and veg.

Lost 28 lbs and counting :-)
