Re: PCOS symptoms after HysterectomyFrom: SusieQ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 22 Apr 2003 11:14:40 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Stacey and Kat, There are many posts about hysterectomy and pcos on the main pcos forum, and I recommend that you both do a little research and reading. PCOS is not caused by your ovaries, the cysts are a symptom of the underlying genetic disease. A hysterectomy and oopherectomy will help some things - reduce pms, eliminate long periods, and remove the cystic ovaries. But they will not stop the endocrine disorder - you could still have high testosterone, excess hair growth, poor insulin response, and the increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, etc. If you have had a th/bso you could still benefit from insulin sensitizers and treatment from a reputable endocrinologist. The underlying disease should be treated. Please do some reading and research -- and don't lose hope! You can still get treatment, and still deserve good treatment. luck, SusieQ
