HI!!
I am a registered nurse with PCOS, I too have been fighting my weight
for years. I work at the local hospital, we are a Magnet hospital and
were rated in the top 100 hospitals in the country, so I work at a GREAT
hospital. I work on the unit where all the Roux-en-y or Gastric bypass
patients go immediately after surgery. I'd just like to say that this
surgery IS A VERY BIG surgery with LOTS of complications, patients DIE
form this surgery, they have life long complications, some of them with
complications make it after spending 3, 6 or even 12 months in the
hospital. While in the hospital they are given the proper nutrition to
help them heal from their wounds/complications and still havent lost a
pound when they are discharged. These long term patients are so
depressed from being in the hospital for such a long period of time,
they cant even hold a converstion with you. Please talk to your DR
about the risks of this surgery, do your own research so that you can
make an educated decision. Yes, many patients do fine, i have had
patints come back to see me a year later and 150 lbs lighter, they look
great and are happy, but that is not the outcome for all of the
patients. Eventhough I am an overweight person,
I would NOT risk having the surgery to be thin. I have seen both sides
of this surgery and it is not worth the risks for me. However, I do not
have diabetes, joint problems, heart problems etc. If I were suffering
form any of them I may look at things differently. Now I would not.
Having the surgery is not a quick fix, it is a forced lifestyle change,
that you must live with. Your stomach will be the size of and egg when
you wake up, whats done is done. Good luck with your journey, I will
pray for you!!Kristin
