Re: Anyone dealing with PCOS successfully?From: Jill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 5 Mar 2003 20:56:28 -0600 (CST)
I am 25 and was diagnosed with PCOS after a very sudden surge in my weight. My periods became highly irregular. I have had enormous problems with my energy level (whether it's due to the weight gain or other, I cannot be sure). The doctor prescribed a higher dose of birthcontrol and metformin, but I haven't had any success losing the weight either. I have been taking Paxil for the depression, which has truly helped my outlook. I saw three doctors before I was diagnosed with PCOS. I nearly gave up after the second one, because he was more than rough with me -- it was the closest I ever want to come to being raped. ON THE UP SIDE -- yes, you will live through this. Yes, it is hard. Yes, I wonder every day if I will ever wake up and get some energy and lose weight so I can fit into my clothes that fit just a year ago. But I guess what has given me happiness is knowing that I am not dreaming, that I am not just "eating too much" or "not exercising enough." Well, that and Paxil ... kidding! Have faith. You're never given more than you can handle, right?
