Unexplained bleeding

Hello, I am a female age 33, who has been previously diagnosed with PCO, I am currently severely overweight. I have had unexplained bleeding since 1988. I have been on contraceptives on and off, but in 1996 I developed a liver condition apparently due to the contraceptives themselves, and was advised never to take them again (there was an enzyme abnormality and my liver swelled up). My bleeding however is so heavy and non-stop when I don't take the pill that having no other alternative my doctor precscribed the "mini Pill". He said this pill doesn't have the Testosterone component, which according to him is what affects my liver. This has helped to control my bleeding though not completely. The bleeding usually returns mostly mid-cycle and I have spotting on and off, if I'm late taking it, even 1hour I'll get a full period. My question is, I have heard that there's a "contraceptive patch", another doctor mentioned that medication absorbed via a patch won't reach the liver; thus, it might be safe for me. Is this correct? I just want to stop bleeding, these heavy periods leave me practically paralized, and unable to lead a normal life. Also, my husband and I would like to have a baby if my efforts to lose weight are successful. How can I possibly get pregnant if I don't stop bleeding unless I'm on the pill...Being on the pill-wouldn't that make it impossible to get pregnant? My doctor says I can get pregnant but how? Please help, I have tried so many doctors through the years, with no results... Thank you for any information Nina
