Re: NasueaFrom: Lori (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Jan 2003 17:40:30 -0600 (CST)
Kristan- if you can take it, use children's chewable Benadryl. It is 12.5 mg Benadryl vs the 50 mg in an adult dose, so it doesn't make you sleepy. Even though everyone knows that it is an anti-histamine, what they don't advertise heavily is that it works as an anti-emetic, which means that it stops motion sickness or nausea. I work as a Paramedic/Firefighter and get horribly car sick (I know, what a job to have with that condition, huh?). Anyway, my physician sponsor pulled me aside one day after a really bad bought, which included unloading a patient and running for the ER bathroom, and gave me that bit of advice. I take it when the nausea hits or if I haven't eaten or its hot outside and we start running a lot of calls at once. Sometimes just the smell of a vehicle will make the nausea start. Anyway, it takes about 15 minutes from the time I take it for the nausea to fully go away. I also get migraines and it cuts the nausea/vomiting from those also. Plus, its chewable and I can carry it in my pocket just in case I need it. I don't know what your OB/GYN will have to say about using the Benadryl, but my sister is pregnant and her OB let her take it (adult strength) for her allergies. Before you try it, ask first. I would hate for you to have some kind of medical condition that is contra-indicated in the use of the Benadryl (there's a list of conditions you shouldn't use it with and it just so happens that pregnancy is one of them). Can't help you with the mood swings, even if I can relate to them!! Did you start losing your energy after you started the Atkins diet? I tried that diet and my energy level hit rock bottom, add carbs and walla, instant energy - gave my brain some food (sugar)! So, have you talked to your doctor about the energy loss, cause that shouldn't be happening (according to the book I read about the diet). You may need to add some carbs back into the mix to help you out. Are you taking vitamins too? Spirulina works well for me. Its vitamin A, B12 and K. I've tried lots of multi-vitamins to help boost my energy level and this one seems to work best for me. The only down side....its a green food (plants) and it stinks! Good luck.
