You guys seem like a pretty knowledgeable group. I have IR and high testoserone, been fat since I was 4 years old. The only child in my family to be fat, other three siblings were thin, even though we all ate the same. I remained active, though heavy, tried every diet. The only two times I had success was going all day on a Dannon yogurt and all the diet pop I wanted. This was back in the late 70's before anorexia was known, I just thought it was a good diet plan. First time I lost 40 gained back 60. Then lost 60 gained back 80. Got on 1200 calories a day, starved and lost almost nothing. I've been studying up on IR and PCOS. My one doctor thought my progesterone was low and put me on 10mg, I about jumped through the roof. Tried other forms of BC pills, even went on the estrogen patch, which I wasn't supposed to do because I have intact female organs. I kept upping the dose. After a while I started feeling bad and my blood pressure would shoot up to 180/100. Got off all hormones The last year I was getting these heart poundings at night, wake me up every night around 12:00 to 3AM. They'd last for 20 minutes to an hour. I went to the hospital twice thinking I was having a heart attack. Sometimes my blood pressure would be high sometimes not. Most of the time at home my blood pressure is normal to below normal. I have white coat syndrome bad. Went to the cardiologist, my heart checks out fine and he wanted to put me on blood pressure pills. Took one at bedtime and was up for 6 hours with a rapid heartbeat. He told me the drug ( a beta-blocker) wouldn't do that. Wanted me to try again. Too afraid next time would be worse. I started the Atkins and I haven't had a heart episode since. I had a mild faster heartbeat after eating corned beef for dinner and will take that off my list. I've been on the diet since the 13th of January, lost 8 pounds and have no more hunger. Usually about 45 minutes after I would eat a regular meal, my heart would pound and I'd feel cold for about 20 minutes. Now I don't have that at all. If anyone has had similar symptoms or would like a diet buddy I would love to hear. I'm also on Gluocophage XR 4-500/mg a day. The endo says it should help my IR and testosterone. It has helped the facial hair growth. I was on 4 pills a day, I tried cutting back to two the first few days after I started the Atkins diet and the hair started coming back. I went back up to three and it seems to be doing ok.
