Re: PCOS and endometriosisFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 13 Dec 2002 23:27:39 EST
Lori - I take the following information from The PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris (BTW, I too am an Adkins flunkee :) and I am enjoying the diet plan in this book and feeling good on it.): "If you ahve PCOS, you are potentially at a higher risk of developing the following long-term health problems . . . Endometriosis - It is not uncommon to see both PCOS and endometriosis in the same woman. Are the two conditions linked? No one really knows the answer at present. . . We do know that this aberrant growth (of uterine tissue) is estrogen-dependent. Since many women with PCOS and irregular periods have raised estrogen levels with little or no opposing progesterone, this may make the situation worse for women who also have endometriosis." Renae
