Hi Guys, I posted a month or so ago - so frustrated with weight loss - after 6 months of intensive effort, but no progress. Now in just 1 month I have lost 8 lbs. It seems like magic, though it really isn't and it is still so hard and has required lots of effort and discipline. What did I do? Not big changes, but obviously something worked - maybe this will give you some ideas / inspiration - and encourage you not to give up:- 1. Cut out all alchohol except red wine and limit that to 1 small glass a day (if more than one glass on any day ie. social function) - then skip next day - so that weekly average is no more than 7 small glasses of red wine. No more than two glasses of wine on any day. (I drink red wine cause my HDL is way low, and I read that moderate alcohol consumption can help that). 2. Change exercise schedule from pm to am. Increase intensity of exercise (particularly the weight training) - though not the duration. I exercise 5 - 7 days a week:- 2 hours gym a day for 5 - 6 days - both weights and vigorous aerobic (like treadmill running or steep slope / bicycling) up to maximum heartrate for at least 20 - 30 minutes a day, then up to 2 hours tennis on the sundays. This weight loss started occuring in my 3rd month of gym. The first two months I actually gained slightly. 3. Reduce average calorie intake by about 200 cals a day (from approx 1200 - 2500 to 1000 - 1200) - this is actually the toughest part and have to pay strict attention to nutrition at this calorie level. I still let myself have occassional treats of chocolate or deserts - but not every day and only very small portions. 4. Eat wholegrain carbs in morning only - rest of day have veges and proteins. 5. Weightloss drug reductil/meridia. I took this for 2 weeks before making the above changes and lost no weight. After making the above changes - have started losing weight like magic. I don't know if this will continue, but I am hopeful that I am once more on the right track - and don't mind if it slows down as long as it continues. So don't give up. Best wishes
-- Sally
