Hi Cathy -

I have been following this eating plan for 2 weeks and 2 days and have lost 11 pounds. And I haven't even begun to exercise yet. That's going to wait until after I actually get my house clean. I lost 6.5 pounds in the first 4 days and then didn't lose another ounce for a week and a half. That was frustrating, but thankfully I hung in there. During that week and a half, I spent 3 days of the Thanksgiving weekend at my parent's - not eating poorly, but not following the plan completely either. I came home from there, stepped on the scale, and rejoiced that for probably the first time ever I did not GAIN weight over the holiday! 3 days later my period started, and then for the next 3 days I continued to lose weight. Today I weigh what I did yesterday, but I also ate at a Chinese restaurant last night - which normally makes me gain weight, so I consider no gain to be progress :) Now I still have a good 130 lbs to lose, so that does influence how quickly I can lose weight. I also know most people have a conniption over weighing daily. I do it for a variety of reasons, most importantly - I use software called Weight Commander which plots your daily weights with two lines. The first line is hollow squares and those are your actual weight entries. The second line is solid squares and those are averaged weight entries. In other words. If you lose 7 lbs overnight (yeah, right), and then don't lose a lb for the next 6 days . . . the hollow square line is going to show a 7 lb drop in one day and then a flat line for the rest of the week. The solid square line will average that out and show a 1 lb loss each day for that week. The motto to using the software is "Don't follow the hollow". As long as the solid square graph is falling, you know you are losing weight, no matter what the scale says. But the daily scale weights are essential to the averaging process, and the future forecast which is also built into the software. It is a VERY fun and motivating tool for weight loss. And he's got lots of fun bells and whistles and info added to it.

Anyway, aside from the weight loss, I can not emphasize enough how different I feel. I have taken a nap EVERY day for the last 2 or 3 years probably, and now have taken only 1 in the last 2 weeks. The plan is EASY to follow - and that's even for a person who has never really eaten a lot of fruits and veggies. The only difficulty I have is eating at fast food restaurants. "Slow-food" restaurants on the other hand, have proven to be very easy. I am content, and I don't desire high-refined carb foods. The author of the book actually recommends allowing yourself small bars of dark chocolate - LOL - I LOVE dark chocolate. I ate several pieces of dark chocolate over Thanksgiving weekend, but didn't have any more until I ate a piece last night. I ate at a steakhouse buffet on Wednesday, and didn't even have a desire to visit the dessert table - instead enjoyed pineapple for dessert! Yesterday we ate at a Chinese buffet (I don't normally eat out this often! ) and I enjoyed only a small pastry for dessert. And yes, the pastry would normally be off-limits, but I knew that only one piece would be all right. Chinese buffets always have "sugar biscuits" or "Chinese donuts" (basically biscuits that are deep-fried and rolled in sugar) and I would normally eat two of those plus the pastry. I had no desire for the sugar biscuits last night, and was perfectly content with the pastry. I had no problem passing up the sweet and sour chicken, and sticking with the meats prepared with onions and peppers. This eating plan has been a tremendous blessing to me. I'll try to check in once a week and let ya'll know how it's going. Maybe I can inspire someone else :)
