Re: Low Complex Carb and Low Fat diet Please HelpFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 28 Nov 2002 22:50:16 EST
Hi Grace - This is a little different, and maybe you don't want to try it, but consider checking out the book, The PCOS Diet Book, by Colette Harris. You can find it on Amazon.com. When I was first diagnosed, I was recommended to follow a moderately high-protein diet/low fat diet. I drove myself absolutely crazy trying to do that because it was SO foreign. I finally gave up and ignored my physical situation entirely for the next year. Now I've decided to get it under control, and the beginning of my quest was with Colette's book. Her book is written from experience - and that means a lot to me! She started with research, implemented it successfully in her life, and then wrote the book. I won't go into all the details, but she recommends eating at least 5 servings a day of fruit and veggies - so she's obviously not anti-carb! However, you never eat carb without also consuming protein. You never eat refined carbs, but instead get your carbs from unrefined sources like whole wheat and brown rice. I have been eating this way for a week, so although I cannot testify to what it does for most things, I can tell you that for the first time in a year I feel GOOD. And I'm not totally intimidated by the diet - I'm actually, heaven forbid, enjoying it. Renae
