Well, then, you won't need to spend any money to make home made bread! :-)

Don't feel too silly. It is true that the bread machine is the totally hassel-free lazy way to make bread. The thing is, in my opinion, if you want to make your own bread exclusively, I think it is even more time consuming in the end. You are limited to one loaf at a time, whereas with one pop you can turn out 2-3 loaves with the kitchenaid. Keep one in the fridge and the rest in the freezer. It's really not a huge hassel. Mixing it up is nothing - I made bread by hand for years. Then let it rise... no big deal there, it can rise away on the first rising (at least in my experience... I know you're not supposed to but I do it all the time...) Punch down, shape it, rise it, bake it. The actual time spent with the dough is minuscule. My husband and I make our own pizza now all the time. We haven't ordered pizza in ages. It's cheaper this way and we know exactly what's in it. :-) (Yes, pizza... I can hear the gasps. As I said though, I think carbs can be eaten on a healthy diet, so long as you watch which carbs.)

But since you do have the kitchen aid, say you want a bread machine... use the kitchenaid for grinding, if you even need to. If you have a natural food store, you can likely get all the ingredients you need there. A lot of times they have a grinder there you can use for wheat berries and so on.
