Re: Got any low-carb snacking tips?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 Oct 2002 15:41:06 -0500 (CDT)
I had suspected I had PCOS for about a year before I broke down and asked my doctor. She really didn't give much info on which diet to be on, so I have been picking and choosing from different diet plans and now have more of a eating lifestyle than a diet. I think the Adkins is not that healthy from what I hear, so I have been just watching my processed carbs, and eating plenty of fruits, veggies, etc. My doctor did warn me against diet drinks, pushing that I should drink more water, and I have been. I have pretty much given up flour and cane and beet sugar as well as rice, potatoes, and pasta. As for snacking, for the first few days I thought I would go insane. I lived on french fries. Now, I have a list of snack items that seem to work for me. I try to keep a supply around. Here is my list: * Mixed nuts * Raisens and prunes * Dill pickels * Sugar-free ice cream * Sugar-free peanut butter with fresh fruit * Celery sticks and broccoli with sugar-free or low-sugar ranch dip or sugar-free ranch dressing * Pickled beets * Meat roll-ups (I layer a few slices of deli meats and a slice of cheese and top it with sugar free ranch dressing and roll it up) * Sugar-free candy * Low-sugar crab or seafood salad I hope you do well with your snacking. I have been on my diet for about a month or so and have lost about 10 pounds. That doesn't sound like much, but I had gained about 70 pounds in 10 years, so I am happy to be on a downward trend. I no longer feel "heavy" after meals though I have a long way to go to be considered at a healthy weight. NOTE: Some sugar-free candy or ice cream can act as a powerful laxitive.
