Re: DietsFrom: Rachel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 11 Oct 2002 17:23:01 -0500 (CDT)
Victoria, Thanks for the post. My sister, who has not been diagnosed with PCOS but has diabetes, went on the 'Potatoes' diet back in April and has lost over 50 lbs. and has kept her sugar in check. My mom teamed up with her to diet, following the DASH diet and has lost over 30 lbs. and also has not had to use medication. My sister was heavier than my mom so I think that's why she has lost more weight. My mom is also diabetic. I am adopted so I can't compare my health with theirs, however, I am thinking of adopting a similar diet plan. I don't know much about low carb diets except for what I've read in the 'Carb Addict's Diet' but I wonder if someone is on insulin-sensitizing medication, is that the healthiest way to go? To me, it's redundant to do both since the medication is making your body use its insulin to metabolize the carbs yet there aren't much there to be metabolized if you're on a low carb diet. Does that make sense to anyone? Thank you for any thoughts.
