Zowies! I'm really losing weight for once.From: Amelie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 25 Sep 2002 10:37:26 -0500 (CDT)
Holy Moly! How fast are people supposed to lose weight on a low carb diet? Is it unhealthy to lose too fast? What is too fast? I've followed it pretty strictly, just carb counting and nothing else. I've lost 7 lbs in 12 days. Water weight, right? I don't think so, but I don't know! I have brought my fat down to 32.3 on the little scale at kaiser that measures your fat. From 32.8! I am a little amazed. My tummy hasn't seen much of a dent, but my upper arm flab is definitely slightly less. Mornings: 1 piece of fruit (medium peach or apple), 2 small slices of soft cheese or small piece of meat (like the equivalent of 2 slices of lunchmeat turkey) and a handful of walnuts (my hands are small) Snack: Carb solutions bar (I like the chocolate versions)OR 10 grapes or 20 raspberries with 2 sticks of celery and cream cheese (1 tsp spread onto each celery) Lunch: I've been eating salads with meat and no sugary dressings. I discovered fresh raspberries on spinach is pretty tasty (of course, I'm sugar deprived, so anything tastes good I guess) Snack:I try to eat more veggies or fruits, but started craving milk lately. Have been drinking one 8 oz glass of nonfat milk ~14g of carb, nonfat cottage cheese has 4-5g carb per serving. Can eat with broccoli like a dip, and it's not bad if you are on this for a week; it actually tastes good. Dinner: Chicken or Steak, fish Or tofu, spiced nicely and bbq'd, stir fried or baked (I am really mixing it up so I don't get bored taking leftovers for lunch), also salads (often made of cabbage and grilled veggies like peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Loads of brocolli and spinach are incorporated somehow. The only rice I've eaten is brown. I haven't had bread in 10 days, and it was 18g/slice. The sandwiches I made had turkey, radish sprouts, onions, cheese, and mustard on them. They weren't within my 30g allotment, but they were very filling on our camping trip. I also ate beef jerky on that trip. This has all been eaten with water and or coffee or diet iced tea and occasional beer or wine (3 in the past week) I am not counting calories, but the Registered Dietician says it's balanced and low in carbs. I am just following this standard for carbs: 15 breakfast, 15 snack, 30 lunch, 15 snack, 30 dinner. And boy, is it working. I feel like I want peppermint patties and licorice, but I don't buy it. I have been told if I cut my fruit and make those snacks into veggies servings, I will stop craving candies. I have lost some serious weight, and am amazed, frankly. Hoping it stays away and I keep going. I am thinking this is my new way of eating forever and I will just keep going till I get to my set point weight, and my life will have changed by then, right? My exercise is walking my dog 2-3 miles 3 times a week, gym 1X week: elliptical trainer level 3-7 depending how lazy I feel, for 20-30 minutes. I also do some weights, especially back, abdominals, and shoulders. Free weights only for my arms, and only 8 lbs. I also walk 6 city blocks to work and back, and make sure to walk around outdoors at least 15 minutes during my day at my desk job. All that stuff, I did before the low carb diet, and only maintained my high weight poundage. I may kick up the gym visits, but I'm happy right now. I am definitely a convert and now I am curious as to how much weight I can lose. I would be very happy at 150 or 160 even. That sounds so skinny to me. 5 meal girl sends you: Much love! ~Amelie (who has a feeling this 7 lbs is just a fluke, but is happy anyway)
