Re: PCOS and weight loss! --Need help!!From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 13 Sep 2002 03:47:34 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Eve, because you need to lose weight quickly for your work, I would recommend that you follow a low carb diet. The previous post was very good for a permanent approach. This means cut out rice, pasta, noodles, white bread, fruit juice, soft drink, starchy veges, cakes, candy, potatoes, anything highly processed. Your diet would consist of vegetables, lean meats including fish, and some dairy and little fruit. Combine this with as much exercise as you can manage. Although I don't personally recommend atkins - for this case you may wish to get hold of it and give it a good try. However, it may not be possible to lose 14 lb in two weeks - but good luck - you may be able to lose half of that. By the way, 12 lbs in two months is actually very good progress. Another hint, some weight may actually be water - to help with this you may wish to cut out salt for a while. A mild diuretic (again please be careful) may help with this (for me a cup or two of strong coffee / diet coke does the trick). ON the day before your weigh in (sorry if this sounds gross), make sure your bowel is empty (can do that with high fibre diet and/or a laxative - don't eat or drink anything the morning before the weigh in. Please do not see this as a permanent thing and I am not trying to encourage unhealthy habits, but I realise that the weigh in is actually important for your career, and there are some tricks that can help even in temporary weight loss. Is there any possibility that they would be more considerate about the weight thing considering that you have been diagnosed and are being treated for PCOS and are losing weight with the treatment. Ask your doctor about this and also to issue a letter on this. Best wishes Sally
