Actually, it is important to have periods. If you don't have 3-4 a year, then you have a risk of endometrial cancer since the lining does not shed. So, we should all want them (provided we have a uterus).

Secondly, a hysterectomy is a major surgery, and thre are far too many performed in this country. There are repercussions of a hysterectomy. First, the surgery itself. No surgery, even simple ones, is without risk. Secondly, the uterus is an important source of hormone production. It's not just the ovaries. It woud induce early menopause, and require making a decision about hormone replacement. There are risks with either choice.

It's not a decision to be entered into so cavelierly. In my opinion, it's healther to keep the uterus and induce periods through some means periodically.

However, I agree with you about trying low-carbing for weight.
