Rachael,

Just because one ovary had to be removed does not mean that the other one will have to be removed at some point. People with PCOS often can conceive, though sometimes with the help of metformin, clomid, low-carbing, and perhaps some advanced technology. A good reproductive endocrinologist could help with that.

You're only 19. There is plenty of time to worry about getting pregnant. It is completely life changing. It is hard to be a single parent without being in a stable relationship. Being a parent so young makes it very difficult to complete your education, whatever type you choose, to get established in a career, and start your adult life. Figure out who you are first, start becoming who you want to be, and then worry about it. I'm 31, and I'm not ready yet (though I am admittedly at the other end of the spectrum).

If the main reason to get pregnant now is out of fear of not being able to later, then I suggest you visit a good reproductive endocrinologist now. They know all about PCOS, generally. He/She could evaluate you, and let you know the probability of you having difficulty getting pregnant later. It might put your mind at ease, and realize that here is no rush. If worse come to worse, and you are unable to give birth to a child, you can still be a mother, through adoption.

Please don't rush into this. There is no going back once you do. Meet with someone who can tell you more so you can make the best decision for you, and the child. This doesn't just affect you, but also a child coming into a home with a single parent with limited education and career options.

Best wishes, Renee
