Confusion about low-carb and calories?

I am trying to eat low-carb and it is helping me but I am confused. Doesn't it make a difference how many calories we eat? I look at many low-carb recipes and they are full of fat, fat, fat -and they have to be high in calories too. Doesn't this affect weight - or not? I am having good success eating lower-carb but I confess I haven't had the courage to eat lots of fat. I eat mostly lean meats and fish, low-carb bread (I get a brand that is 3 carbs a slice), some fruit and lots of veggies. Not too much fat. Should I be eating more fat?
