Please help - guidelines for carbs?

Hi, folks - I could use a bit of guidance on this. I eat mostly lean protein, some lower fat dairy, fresh veggies and fruits. I try to eat as few carbs as I can and I make those high-fiber or as unprocessed as possible. But I have no idea how many grams of carbs I should have per day for optimal weight loss and control of PCOS. I certainly feel better eating the way I do (no tiredness or blood sugar swings that leave me shakey) but I'm still in the dark about guidelines for carb amounts. For instance, today I noticed that 3 small cans of V-8 juice has 21 carbs! And I'd always assumed that it was relatively healthy and low carb. Help, please...
