I am about to go on Metformin but I have had some success losing weight even without it, about 20 pounds at this point. YOu asked about what "success" people have had and I did want to say that what is most successful is finding an eating plan you can live with forever because PCOS is usually not cured but controlled and your diet is a huge part of that. For me, I need to limit carbs significantly and I find that if I concentrate on getting my protein, fresh veggies and some fresh fruit and dairy, then I really don't have that many calories left over for carbs anyway. But most of us crave and want SOME carbs in our life and you shouldn't feel deprived. Just try to choose the highest fiber carbs you can - whole wheat, high fiber bread (or high fiber white bread if you don't like whole wheat). Avoid highly processed carbs, except in limited quantities and I find that when I do eat a carb, eating protein with it really does help keep my blood sugar levels even. As far as calories go, I use the point system that weight watchers has. For a 200 pound woman, you would be allowed 22-27 points and each point is about 50 calories, so that is somewhere around 1000 - 1350 calories a day. Exercise is a CRUCIAL part of weight loss for me and I have worked up to walking an hour a day, at about a 3.5 mile per hour pace...but I started at about a 2 mile per hour pace and just gradually went up from there. Even if you can walk only 10 minutes 3 times a day, it helps. >
