Just wondering if >anyone else has had luck with only dietary changes and exercise? I first took Metformin, prescribed by my fertility specialist, as an effort to get pregnant (2 years of trying). 3 weeks later, I was! I was taken off Metformin for the duration of the pregnancy and started again when my daughter was about one month old. From that day on, I have lost 80 pounds...but that's only the begining! I had it all: acne, facial (and other) hair, high cholestorol...you name it. Now, my skin is clear, after laser-the hair is gone (unless I go off Metformin) and my cholestorol is the lowest it's been since I was a teenager. But, here's a little more info: neither my OB or my internist had ever heard of Metformin for treating PCOS, so I had to educate them. My internist since learned that Metformin combined with Meridia is very sucessful for the treatment of diabetes, so I added Meridia to my program and lost the remaining 25 and my cholestrol dropped an additional 20 pts. (To date I have not been diagagnosed with diabetes) One more bit of info-one year ago I started an excersise program called Super Slow Burn. I work out one day a week, for 20 minutes. (I know it sounds too good to be true, but I swear!!) It is mainly strength training, but I have lost two sizes doing it. Add in one or two days of cardio and you are going to lose more. (I have not done this yet! and they do not recommend it.) It is hard work to focus your world around this disease, this combination of medication, reasonable low-carb eating and excersise that doesn't take over every free minute has allowed me balance. This is only what I can offer, everyone has to find what works for them.
