JO- Forget Atkins. Unless, you want your blood-sugar levels to continue to fluctuate. Being in a state of ketosis is very dangerous for your body and can do some irreversible damage. Believe me- I know. I'm not a doctor or physician- I believe that eating a higher protein, lower carb diet is necessary- but not to the extreme. Our bodies need variety in order to get proper nutrition- even if you're taking vitamins- most of them are synthetic and not really absorbed by your body. The best way to get nutrition is through your food. What I would reccommmend is eating the following diet, and instead of focusing so much on food- get out there and exercise- don't let anyone tell you how much you should be doing- set your own goals and most importantly sweat. Allow yourself to get in touch with your body. Disliking your body is a catalyst for change- hating your body is like throwing a weight-loss bomerang. When you curse your bad habits or old lifestyle, they become vengant. Drink lots of water- take half of your body weight and that is the number of ounces you should drink a day. You'll be amazed at how much better you will feel. All doctors say that the key to regulating our disease is regulating our fat. I disagree. It's about regulating our bodies- and there is no one system that doesn't suffer when you go into ketosis. Protein is only effective when it is balanced with other foods. Excess protein causes kidney damage, gout (mostly in men) and skin and hair disorders. Even if you just plan to stay in ketosis during the "induction" stage- you're throwing your body for a loop. Love yourself and have faith that your life will become healthy- but most importantly- make your OWN decisions about your body.

In Love- A Sister with PCOS

Protein- 5-6 servings a day (serving 3 oz of meat, 1 egg) Carbohydrates- 1 serving a day (1 slice bread, 1 serv. cereal) Fruit- 1-2 servings a day (except bananas, make one grapefruit, apples good) Eliminate Milk, cheese, (Rice milk is good for smoothies or cereal, limit it) Eliminate Margarine- any hydrogenated vegetable oils USE COCONUT OIL AVOID STARCHES- potatoes, squash, corn, etc- bagels EAT VEGGIES!!!!! Greens are unlimited NO Refined sugars- leave it alone STOP DRINKING MUNICIPAL WATER- reverse osmosis water is best

Black and Blue Cohosh are supposeldly good supplements too. good luck!
