Hello Nicole, my name is Amber. I too have PCOS, and have been on the metphormine for a little over a year now. For the first 4 months I was sick all the time. I either wanted to vomit, or was stuck in the restroom all the time, and constantly had a stomach ache. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered that when on the metphormine, especially if you are on it 3 times a day, you must cut out all sugars. Also, I found that coffee, ( especially my mochas ) and soda, including diet, had to go as well. I have since started eating whole wheat bread in place of white, and limit any carbs to eating them only along with a good amount of protein. I still eat fruit, and have the occasional treat when I can't stand it. But once I made these changes, I haven't been sick at my stomach, had any diarreah, vomiting, or any other side effects at all. Within the first 3 months I had lost 20 lbs, and I have been overweight my entire life. Even the atkins didn't work for me, I stayed at the same weight after all the hard work. Now on the metphormine, I feel great. I sleep better, have more energy, and eat so much healthier than I did before. I am now having pretty regular cycles, and we are getting ready to start trying for a baby again. I am kind of at a plato right now with my weight. So I am going to try to start on the Carb addicts diet soon to get a jumpstart again. But when you are first on the metphormine it is so hard to adjust, that you might want to just learn what's right for your body so that you adjust better, otherwise you will get so tired of being sick and frustrated that you might be tempted to give up and stop taking it... like I did. I have been back on it for a while, and with the changes above, when I went back on it, I haven't been sick once this time. It seems really strict, but when you start feeling good, and have more energy, lose a few pounds and feel so proud, it will be worth the cutbacks.

I hope it works out well for you.

Amber Cooper, Portland Oregon.

Low Carb diet plans: there have been many good recommendations here. Check out the titles from your local library, and read all you can so you understand the principles behind the plans. I too find eating lower carbs easier than any other plan. Here are some of the key books that relate to specific plans. Many libraries have many of these books, as they are all very popular. YOU really need to carbe out a plan that works for you and your lifestyle. I started with The Zone, and explore any new book that ocmes out, to see what they have to say. http://home.attbi.com/~cnmpat/lowcarbplans.htm
