Soy is a phytoestrogen - it acts like estrogen in ways we don't fully understand yet. You can imagine, I'm sure, what havoc that can cause in people who are already hormonally imbalanced. It also can cause you to be hypothyroid because it binds to the thyroid hormones, making them unavailable for use in the body. Definitely do not eat soy if you are already hypothyroid!
