Re: LEEPFrom: Stacy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 13 Mar 2002 23:22:32 -0600 (CST)
Amber and Maureen, I have undergone the LEEP procedure...three times! In 1991 I had my first abnormal pap smear results. After going to the GYN three months later for a retest, he performed a colposcopy and determined that I had HPV aka Human Papilomia Virus (spelling?). In September 1991, I had my first LEEP procedure done under local anethesia for cells on my cervix. Six months later, my pap results were again abnormal and I had another LEEP done for cells in my vulva area. November 1992 I had my third (and, knock-on-wood, final) LEEP procedure but this time under general anethesia for cells that were in the vaginal walls. At the time, my GYN felt that there would be no reason for me to be able to conceive and carry children in the future due to HPV. At the time, I believed that I contracted HPV due to not using a condom with one particular guy (a stupid thing, yes, I know...at least I was "smart" enough to be on birth control and not end up pregnant). Recently, I have learned that I may have PCOS - through discussion with my GYN and regular physician and reviewing my history of "problems" (many of them PCOS symptoms). Last week, had a transvaginal ultrasound (no cysts - ovaries are fine) and went for blood tests. I go to the doctor's tomorrow for results and to discuss taking a medication for diabetes. My GYN put me on Provera to start a period (haven't had one in almost 6 months!) and the birth control pill, Levlen. I was also given Prozac to take to help with the mood swings and emotional pitfalls. I, too, am curious on whether precancerous cells and PCOS are linked somehow??? Any takers? Stacy :-)
