pregnancy questionFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Mar 2002 12:20:20 -0600 (CST)
Let me start by saying that I do understand that this is the PCOS diet forum...I have been a silent reader for almost a year now and although I have never posted, I have learned a lot from all of you and do feel a sense of connectedness, so that is why I am posing my question to you all rather than the general PCOS forum. With that said, here is my question (on the basis that the only stupid question is the one not asked!). I recently visited my doctor for a check up ...it has been about 7 months since I have started working out and eating low carb and I wanted to have my hormones checked again since my periods had been regular and I have been able to lose some weight. Well, sure enough, my cholesterol had come down 35 pooints, my testosterone level went from 187 to 67 and my blood sugar and insulin levels were normal....a much different strory than 7 months ago. Well, my doctor told me that she is 99.9% sure that I am ovulating (an inference made from my test results and regularity of periods) and that if I was interested in getting pregnant, she would be happy to put me on Chlomid...HUH? If I am ovulating, why would I need Chlomid? I have worked so hard without medication to get my PCOS under control and now that my husband and I are seriously ready to think about getting pregnant, I don't understand why medication needs to come into the picture.. I have not tried to get pregnant in the past, so there is no indication that it would be a challenge. Is my Dr. too supportive of pharmeceutical companies or is there a valid reason why I would need Chlomid if I am ovulating?
