Re: Non low carb dietsFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 Feb 2002 08:50:30 -0600 (CST)
I have had success on low gylcemic diet - fruits, veggies, lean protein complex carbs. But now I'm starting a new diet - only fruit and veggies for 30 days- no processed foods to clean out my system. I discovered this diet via my mother who did it for 30 days and got rid of her life long allergies. She in turn, got it from a Dr. Joel Furman who says that a diet mostly consisting of of veggies and fruit and supervised fasting (at the appropriate time) can reverse diabetes (and therefore also insulin resistance). He writes that before the discovery of insulin that this is the way diabetes was treated, and it was successful. I'm just learning about this diet and this doctor. He says a low protein and low fat diet is the best way to go for many conditions, he, (like others) warns strongly against the Atkin's diet. See http://www.drfuhrman.com/ esp.http://www.drfuhrman.com/atkins.htm if you prefer to be a vegetarian this is probably something that would be easy for you to do. For me, I could not lose weight until I started taking glucophage, now that I'm on it what I do to lose weight actually works. Hope this helps. Anne
