May just be a habit. I can hear many things at once but only because I grew up with a large family full of people with ADD in regards to conversations, they'd all talk at once and couldn't stay on a topic for long even if you threatened to strangle them all!! LOL!

I am hypERthyroid which is associated with the hypersensitivity in all senses. It does seem to be the case where I am concerned. I hear, smell, and taste things very intensely. The hearing and smelling is what is worst to me. The hearing interferes with my sleep and with my comfort level during the day, and the smelling makes it impossible for me to be around sometimes, my husband gets bitched at constantly to change the litter box, and I am always searching out smells to get rid of in the house, and I can't be around my husband after he's had a cigarette (thank god he's quitting) and if someone farts, agggggh i'm out of there.

My mom and all my family pretty much EXCEPT my father smoked all throughout my childhood! If that is related it certainly doesn't apply to me :)

Could be the hypo though... or just some completely unrelated disorder.
