Re: How many carbs per meal?....anyoneFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 31 Jan 2002 10:00:49 EST
American greetings, I too have a light sensitivity. After Christmas I like leaving my white lights strung over my sliding glass door and in other areas in my living room. I turn them on in the evenings when watching tv as the only light source. I prefer indirect lighting much more to over head lights. Although, I am not particurly sensitive to floresent lights. When I am on the "puter". I do not turn on any lights. I prefer the light coming from a window nearby as more than enough. If it is dark out I do put on one small desk lamp. When working as a nanny I am constantly turning lights off in unused rooms that the kids have just left. And turning down dimmer switches to half way. These kids love to come into a room and turn up the dimmers and turn on every light in the room! I always contributed that to a personal preferance. But maybe there is a connection to my PCOS or hypo-throidism. I would not be surprised! I must confess that I like to have the remote in my hand when watching tv or listening to the radio in the car. I have to turn down the tv or radio in order to hear others. I thought I did that as a habit and not related to pcos. I have not had a hyper-sensitivity to noises in general. But I do have very sensitive ears that can pick up distant, faint sounds that others cannot. It is like my hearing is the best out of my 5 senses! Speaking of the 5 senses. I have noticed that my taste and smell seam to be the worst of my senses. I cannot smell most smells unless they are really strong. I can smell powdered drink mixes and some strong perfumes. I can smell smoke, if it is strong. I am the last one in a room to smell burnt toast or cookies in the oven. I could not smell my Christmas tree this past year. I cannot smell a candle burning. I can smell the candle if I stick my nose in it before lighting it. And this last one, I mention is a very bad handicap. I cannot smell rotten milk products. I have been known to eat a whole bowl of cereal with rotten milk and not even know it till my husband took a whiff of the milk. (It makes me quiver to think about it, YUCK!) Since my nose is off a little it does affect my taste buds. I cannot taste most foods unless they are heavily seasoned and flavored. (I have offen wondered if my smell and taste dullness may be related to my father having smoked all through my childhood???) At least that is what I thought before I heard anyone else say that they struggle with the same things. May be there is more to this whole PCOS thing than I thought. JOYFULLY, Corina
