Re: dietFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jan 2002 16:48:42 -0600 (CST)
I read that eating whole foods (such as meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, legumes, whole grains etc..) although higher in carbs than most lo carb diets it is good for you. The book I read said the good fiber in all whole plant foods helps it from raising your sugar levels too quickly. I stay away from sugar and pasta ,white bread...anything processed! I use "splenda" in place of sugar if I get a sugar craving..it has no calories, taste more like sugar and doesnt raise glucose levels nor does it have the bad chemicals like in other artificial sweetners (ie aspartame, saccharin etc) Sonnet recommended the book "Sugar Busters" I think it is a more realistic approach. I also read for people with IR that exercise helps make cells more receptive to insulin..which I personally know from experience...I have lost over 50 lbs just doing brisk walking (about an hour a day) and i was eating whatever i wanted..heehee..but have recently cut out the sugar and processed junk and started losing again!!!! Exercise is a big key!! I love walking..its easy and relaxing:D I tried the lo lo carb..with mostly meats and non starchy veggies, and I was like you...i got bored! I have to have variety. Hope some if not all of this helps!!
