Hi - I've only recently started following the board messages so may have missed something important previously. However, I was very interested to hear about your TSH count and thyroid issues. I was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago and was recently found to have a similar TSH rating to you - fell from 0.21 to 0.03 in the space of 3 months. However, I didn't have any of the symptoms of an overactive thyroid (eg. losing weight - definitely not happening!!) nor did I have a heightened TS4 count. I recently got to see an endocrinologist who says the thyroid symptoms are unrelated to the PCOS. Instead, he says I've got a nodule on my thyroid which is interfering with the negative feedback cycle between the pituitary and thryoid gland. If I've understood this properly, the nodule is boosting the amount of TS4 the thyroid gland is producing so the thryoid gland is telling the pituitary it doesn't need to produce TSH - hence the TS4 has remained within normal confines (ie. no overactive thryoid) while the TSH has slumped dramatically to 0.03. However, the endo tells me this balance is only temporary and at some point (though he can't say when) I will develop hyperthyroidism - consequently, depending on my scan results the nodule may need to be removed. I don't know if this has any bearing on your results but I really hope you get it sorted out - there is such a maze of info to work through. I'd also be fascinated to know if any of you know HAVE hard of links between thryoid problems (eg. nodules) and PCOS.

Steph

Okay well that still doesn't make sense because my thryoid is definitively overactive. I just saw my doctor yesterday and he revealed that my TSH levels were down even further, the first time they were 0.16 and the second time they were 0.04. I assume this is very obviously an overactive thyroid.

Furthermore all the symptoms I am experiencing right now are very familiary to me, before birth control I had them all. Some lessened on the bcp but now are back in full force. The first levels were taken on bcp the second were taken a couple of weeks after I stopped bcp.

It doesn't make sense because I am very overweight and never experienced weight loss and certainly am not experiencing it now despite the last three weeks on a low carb diet.

LOL... if anyone can understand mood swings it should be us :)

I have been a PCOS sufferer since I was 21. I was always very thin 5'8 and weighed 103 pounds. In two months at the age of 21 I gained 45 pounds and my periods ceased to exsist. Since that time I have been through it all with this disease. Losing hair while gaining facial hair (now isn't that a kick in the teeth) weighing at heaviest 238 lbs, being told I would never have children. A doctor offering to wedge my ovaries...thank the Lord I didn't do that. Four endoscropic procedures, heavy periods, etc...

The blessings are in between this bouts I have managed to have two beautiful girls (We have not used birth control in 9 years and have never conceived again.) This past year I finally found a vitamin program/weight loss that has worked and have now gone from a size 18/20 to a 10/12. It has taken 8 months to loose 40 lbs and 33 1/2 inches. Which while it is slow medically speaking we know it is healthier than a super fast weight drop. I have not had any issues with holding my weight down and in fact have lost quite a bit more inches than weight. The facial hair is still there but at least my hair is not falling out anymore and I am trying to walk 5 miles 4-5 days a week so my energy level is great.

If anyone is interested in this program just write back... It really has help me. I am going to be 40 in a year & 1/2 and made up my mind I was not going to spend the next 20 years feeling unhealthy like I spent the last 17 regardless of my disease.

Yup,A little humour here might help!

At least I learned how to spell "lose"....LOL!!!!

I had to laugh when I read that message with the mood swings. I am also the Queen of PMS

Oh,it was not me that posted the original message out there about ketosis....just not to let anyone's raging hormones get ticked at me,but I too, seem to always spell "LOSE",as "LOOSE",so at least she helped me with my spelling.

I agree with Panacea,we should be here to support one another, not take it out on one another. I read the article that anonymous wrote about ketosis and at least it helped me to research further into what it was,as I had no clue and at least now,am able to understand what it is,as I myself was in it and always wondered what it was,but never got a solid answer from my endo and never took the time to research it,,,at least now I did.All messagess regarding ketosis helped me alot!

Anyways,I think that anonymous was incorrect about her opinions on Ketosis, but was possibly trying to help,as I know NOW,that it is a good thing for burning fat for a short while, not over a long period.Possibly this is what she was trying to tell us.

I think that some are just trying to help a little from bad experiences that they may have gone thru,as I did, when I was completely out of line, expressing my bad experiences with anti-depressants. I now regret that I ever did that,as I now fully understand that resorting to those meds are what some of us need to make it thru a day.

It is a struggle,so on that note,I am off to take a shower(uggg),sends my heart palping........morning work-out of the day for this PCOS"er!LOL!

Warmest Wishes to All! Hugs=)
