Pregnancy, PCOS and IRFrom: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Dec 2001 10:07:32 -0600 (CST)
Pregnancy, especailly the third trimester, is a naturally IR state. Think of yourself as pre-diabetic, and eat accordinggly. I believe the current ADA recommendations for Gestational Diabetes is 40 % carbs, and I would recommend low glycemic carbs vs starchy carbs. There is research to support these choices. I researced this for a MS project, and have created some handouts that make suggestions about how to eat while pregnant with IR (and GDM). I've recently redone my web sites, but you should be able to find everything you need here: http://home.attbi.com/~creationsunltd/overview.htm#Gestational My recommendation is to follow a plan like the 40-30-30 plan while pregnant. This allows for a good variety of nutrients, and balance in your diet. The object is to keep your blood sugar in a normal range, and making low carb choices helps to maintain this.
