Re: Help!?! - I was feeling so good...what happened?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?From: Theresa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Nov 2001 20:07:51 -0600 (CST)
Hi everybody. I'm new here. But I had to reply to this because I've been through it too. I've also had this and I know it's the PCOS. I had similar symptoms before I started taking Glucophage in October, and my Glucophage side effects have been different. I stopped taking the Pill about 15 months ago, and stopped having periods...you know the story; I was diagnosed with PCOS in September. Anyway, after I stopped taking the Pill, I would have "episodes" that lasted 1-2 weeks that were like extreme PMS without a period at the end. They included heartburn, constant nausea, exhaustion, headaches, crankiness, extreme bloating (gaining 10 pounds overnight), etc. I've had some nasty PMS, but this was way beyond. I actually thought I was somehow pregnant a couple of times. The only things that helped were lots of exercise, me-time, NO caffeine, and nibbling on crackers and diet ginger ale. Every time, it went away in 7-10 days. The good news is, I had a period on my own last month, with more "conventional" PMS. I think from things I've read and things my GYN has said that your body is building up these hormones expecting either ovulation and no pregnancy, or pregnancy, and it gets neither, so it just builds everything up and waits for a signal. That said, I had a scary episode two weeks ago where I was very dehydrated and had lactic acid in my muscles from extreme physical exertion, and it caused some very strange reactions with the Glucophage. So call your doc just to be safe.
