Best of >health and luck to all of you out there going through the same thing. > Illana, I tried everything to lose weight, I joined a gym, highered a trainer, worked out 7-14 hours a week, watched my diet, kept it at about 1600. I lost no weight even after 6 months of doing this (I did firm up, however). But it was not the answer to my insulin resistance/pcos - I was still having problems. I got on glucophage xr and am now taking 1500mg, I have lost seven pounds in about 6-7 weeks, without exercising. I have also decided to get real serious about lowering carbs and increasing protein. I'm going back to the gym and expect to lose a lot more weight. Pick up the book "Women, Weight and Hormones" by Elizabeth Vliet, MD. She recommends a diet that is about equal in protein and carbs, it's very doable. She also explains a lot about the effects of hormones and adrenals on our bodies and lists tests for PCOS and other conditions. It sounds like you have not been thoroughly tested - hormones and fasting insulin levels, if that's the case, insist on it or switch doctors. You should be very glad you don't have Cushings. You must have had high adrenals due to stress, I've read in a number of places that it is very difficult to lose weight when you are stressed, consider meditation and exercise for that. My situtation is different than yours, I have thyroid disease, insulin resistance and pcos (but mild), my endo wants me to wait a year, my gyn said my clock is ticking (I'm 37)... I know it's hard to wait. I feel like I've been waiting my whole life. But I also read somewhere recently if you get the IR thing under control you'll be less likely to pass it along to your child, don't know if that's true, but maybe that will help you wait. Good luck.
