Re: I would do anything I need to really loose 10 to 20 pounds in aFrom: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Oct 2001 22:30:10 -0800
10 pounds in a month is reasonable for most people, but 20 pounds is too much. It's not healthy. However, for us PCOSers, it can be tough to cut those 10 pounds. Many people find results with cutting carbs. Why can't you go unless you lose that weight? If it is about wearing a swimsuit and going to the beach, then don't worry about it. If it's only 10 pounds that you're concerned about, you're fine in a swimsuit now. Even those with 110 pounds to lose can go out in a swimsuit. Most people won't even notice you out on the beach. Those that do are too shallow for you to be bothered by. PCOS affects us in many ways. However, it's your choice about if you'll let it win or not. This week I was at a professional meeting of health care providers, mostly physical therapists. PTs tend to be pretty fit people (that's how they got into PT-they had an athletic injury and got therapy). I sometimes feel like I stand out in the crowd. However, I wanted to go to the pool. So, I put on my swimsuit (and I have a hundred pounds to lose), walked down the hall, and went to the pool. I was a little self-conscious, but I figured, Hey! I'm in control. I'm going to live the life I want to. Also, I found a swimsuit I actually liked last year (at a discount store, of all places- Ross). It is a tankini with a skirt. The top is bloused, with the skirt attached to it, and the bottom is boy-cut briefs. It's cute and tiger print. There are places to get swimsuits specially designed for bountiful women. (Junonia.com, the plus sized stores, etc.). Don't let this stop you. Getting into the trap of crash diets for short gains sets up for an unhealthy pattern of yo-yo dieting and is stressful on the body. Try to enjoy life. Renee
