Re: I would do anything I need to really loose 10 to 20 pounds in a monthFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 29 Oct 2001 07:54:21 -0600 (CST)
Hi - It is possible to lose 10 lbs in a month - maybe even 20. If you can follow a strict diet. Suggest you don't do anything too faddy as you may end up feeling really bad. I suggest you aim for 1200 to 1500 calories a day as a start, (get a calorie counter to monitor and a diet scale and use it), keep it low carb (cut out anything white - ie white bread, cakes, biscuits, rice, pasta, potatoes and anything sugary, including alcholhol, soft drinks, fruit juice) and low fat. That means focusing on vegetables (particularly salad vegetables), some fruits (not too much - max of 2-3 pieces a day), some good low fat protein sources like skinless chicken, fish, etc. and getting some whole grains (rye bread, whole-grain bread, brown rice etc). Plan your menu in detail and then shop accordingly and stick to it. Better to eat at home or take packed lunchesthan to eat out where it is harder to control (at least while you are trying to have a big reduction in a short time). Then you must exercise. I don't know what your weight or fitness level is. But better do something low impact. Walking, swimming, cycling. Aim to build up slowly. Perhaps do 10 - 15 minutes of exercise 2-4 times a day and build up the duration - or if you can't do that much just try for 5 minutes as many times a day as you can. Even soemthing like swinging your arms or lifting light hand weights may help - as long as it is more than you usually do..... and then build up duration and resistance. Try to exercise at a level where you feel hot but not where you are too breathless to talk. Drink plenty of water. hint: If you feel like snacking drink 2 glasses of water first. If you don't cheat the above should give results. All common sense stuff. But there is NO SAFE QUICK CURE to lose weight. Good luck and best wishes and let us know how it goes. Sally
