MG- It sounds like you are under the impression that if you forgo all the medication and diet that you will die earlier but happier. I have had the misfortune of seeing women who have had untreated PCOS in my line of work and many of them are still alive in their 50's 60's and beyond but their quality of life is absolutely miserable. Diabetes and heart disease has taken a major toll on their looks and health but has not yet killed them. Your body does not have to "collapse in on itself". My health has improved immensely by just taking the glucophage every day- my energy level went up and my depression went away. I think if I still felt the way I was feeling before treatment I would not mind dying early either - it was no way to live. I do avoid some foods but if I really want it, I have it- and I have not gained another lb since beginning gluc over a year ago. To me it's a minor incovenience to take 3 pills a day now verses later being squeezed in a wheelchair, toting around an oxygen tank and feeling too exhausted to hardly move. You are very right, it's your decision, but don't assume that just because you may die early, that you will be happy in the process, You are right that PCOS can kill if left untreated, but it doesn't do it quickly or mercifully. I hope things work out for you whatever you decide. Susan C.
