This is my first time here, yet I see myself in all your messages....From: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Aug 2001 12:18:11 -0500 (CDT)
HI, I am 25 and have PCOS, I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, but have been living with the symptoms since puberty. Like many of you I too never thought as a 16 year old girl that my abnormal periods were a big deal. When I turned 19 I gained a whopping 70 pounds and went from a size 6-7 to a size 14 (5'3", 205#'s) I felt very sad and very self consious, and to top it all off I was a newlywed. ( My husband is the greatest man on earth, and has stuck by me thru all of this...and the 70 pounds.. with not even one complaint....well ok maybe a few about the mood swings..LOL) Anyway, I went to the dr. and of course they said "oh your periods are screwy?..well heres your pills" Im sure this might of helped, but I was married and wanted to have a child. So I started seeing doctors all the time and trying chlomid and so forth with no results.... Now six years (and no children) later it took a nurse practioner 15 minutes to say.. "you should be seeing a specialist for your PCOS and you should be on a low cab diet and Hey have you ever heard of Metformin?"....That was more information then I have recieved from all of my doctors combined in the last three years. I start seeing my Repro. Endo. on Sept. 21st. I am nervous and excited but all of you give me strength. It is so nice to finnaly realize I am not alone... That the whole world doesnt see me as just some fat lazy person. I am on the other hand a CARB JUNKY and could greatly use any advice you can give me on how to stick with this whole low-carb thing....Thanx a million!
