Hi A, :)

I think I have great news for you...I'm on the pill and doing a low carb diet, and I am having great success. I've lost 12 pounds (in a very short amount of time) and counting. So don't worry about it! I'm currently taking Tricyclen; however, next month I am going to start taking Diane. I doubt it matters which pill you are on.

As I understand it, eating a regular, high-carb diet causes our bodies to produce lots of insulin. In turn, high insulin causes our testosterone levels to be higher. By reducing your carbs, in the end your testosterone levels should normalize. This is probably why some ladies start to get a regular (or atleast more regular) menstrual cycle.

Anyway, fear not! I hope my success to-date will help motivate you. The first few days of my diet I felt a little sluggish and hungry; however, now I feel great. I think this can be contributed to two things: 1. I feel really positive and proud about controlling my eating. 2. I am really motivated by the faster weight loss, as opposed to conventional diets.

The other thing about this diet that I find motivating...is I have achieved ketosis ( a state in which your body burns fat -- which is quite controversial in the medical field ). Ketosis may take a few days to achieve, so you cannot over due your carbs, or you have to get yourself into ketosis again. However, that being said...if you "fall off the band wagon", jump back on again!

There's a REALLY interesting site, called "How Stuff Works" that gives a bit of a description about diabetes that relates to ketones/ketosis. The second diagram is interesting, and illustrates the relationship between weight loss and ketones. There are probably better sites; however, I love this site (for just about anything). http://www.howstuffworks.com/diabetes3.htm

Anyway, I'll stop blabbing now! I think you should try the low-carb diet. I'm sure that you will be happy with the results. My mom has lost 20 pounds, and my aunt has lost 25. ...That's a couple of children! ;)

Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any questions!
